Science Literacy Week 2016

Science Literacy Week is a nationwide celebration of science coming September 19-25. At heart, the week is about providing all the outstanding science and science outreach organizations in Canada a chance to join together in a blitz of activity designed to highlight the great work they do year round. Nature hikes, stargazing, researcher showcases, science demos, public talks - if it engages the public and celebrates science it's a welcome addition to the week.

Last year the week came to include 300 events coast to coast in 40 cities, and this year with over 150 participants nationwide and prominent supporters it looks to be even bigger. The website at scienceliteracy.ca serves to connect all the events and activities nationwide — everything happening will be posted on the "events" page for easy access by the public. The website also serves to highlight great books, videos and other content in the sciences so that you can learn even more at home. The twitter page @scilitweek does much the same, and the hash tag #scilit16 is set to help every participating group share stories, pictures and information during the week to have the maximum possible reach. If you want to show videos of your scientists in action, tell everyone what your favourite science book is, or tell the world about your sci-lit week event #scilit16 is the way to do it.

If you want to have an event already scheduled included as part of the week, or would like to find out about other groups working near you bringing the event to life, let me know at info@scienceliteracy.ca.
