STAN aims to nurture collaborations and forge new relationships between the diverse and exciting group of STEM educators, promoters, and communicators that exist across Canada. As we move into 2023, STAN continues to grow and support the renewed network developed over the course of the past five years especially in these trying times through a variety of avenues including our newsletter, unconference webinars and database. The STAN board strives to reflect the diversity of our members and we are looking for board members that will help in continuing the vision of STAN as the hub for networking and connecting organizations, for cementing partnerships between members, and for creating opportunities to serve more Canadians more effectively than ever before.

Opportunity (Why become a Board or Committee Member):
In 2023, STAN will continue to grow and support the network and its strategic priorities. STAN aims to nurture collaborations and forge new relationships between STEM educators, promoters, and communicators across Canada for the benefit of all Canadians. STAN is the hub for networking and connecting organizations, for cementing partnerships between members, and for creating opportunities to serve more Canadians more effectively than ever before. STAN Board members will make connections that could help propel their organizations and careers to new heights.
Board of Directors Commitments

1-year commitment, renewal up to 4 years (before member re-election)

Board meetings at a frequency of 1 every 6 weeks (up to 1.5 hour)

Committee meetings (committee dependent as needed, hour- long meetings)

Five (5) to ten (10) hours of work per month, as required*

Ability to travel using professional or personal funds, up to once a year when hosting an in-person conference
*Take note that this is a working board, and you will be expected to support and deliver on projects. The Board and volunteers are the primary workforce of the organization.
Committee Opportunities and Commitments:
Being a member of a STAN committee, with possibility of Chairing. Terms are 2 years with the possibility of renewal.

Membership Committee (Meets 2-4 times/year, average of 5 hrs. per month)

Finance Committee (Meets 5-8 times/year, average of 3 hrs. per month

Governance and Nominations Committee (Meets 3-5 times/year, average of 4 hrs. per month)

Conference Planning Committee (Meets 6-8 times/year, average of 5 hrs. per month)

Professional Development Committee (Meets 4-8 times/year, average of 5 hrs. per month)

Communications Committee (Meets 4-6 times/year, average of 5 hrs. per month)
